Directed by Bert L. Dragin (Summer Camp Nightmare) and co-written by Dragin and Robert McDonnell, this is part of the Concorde/New Horizons time of Roger Corman. It’s a haunted house movie, home invasion, teen drama, street-violence epic, and slasher all at once.
The Cates family — Harry (Scott Melville), Sylvia (Brooke Bundy), Scott (Tom Bresnahan) and Robin (Jill Whitlow, Night of the Creeps; she and on-screen brother Tom Bresnahan were actually dating during production) — inherits a decayed mansion once owned by a deranged golden-age stage actor named Tyler Walker (Jonathan Chapin). The catch? The house is located smack in the middle of a brutal, tough-as-nails neighborhood. As poltergeist activity rattles the walls, the teen kids find themselves terrorized by movie punks. In a neat genre turnaround, the ghost of the old actor isn’t trying to evict the new tenants; instead, he teams up with them to help thwart the marauding hooligans. And then it gets back to trying to kill them.
Todd Bridges is in this. If you know who that is, it’s time for your prostate exam.
Yes, Tyler hung himself when he could have the love of his life, Myrna, who also looks just like Robin. Incel from beyond the grave, huh? This also has a cat death and a sexual assault threat by the gang against Robin, if either of those things upset you. Also, Crip (also Jonathan Chapin) is obsessed with Robin, and they may be reincarnations.
This might be the only movie I’ve ever seen where an aardvarking couple is killed by an electric blanket. It also has a punker on a motorcycle try to molest Myrna’s mannequin, only to have his bike get possessed and kill him, as well as someone being beheaded by a dumbwaiter.
This is way better than it should be, believe it or not!
