CBS was like, we have The Dukes of Hazzard at home, but nothing succeeds like success. So who better to make another Southern fried car-based TV show that Roger Corman, who’d been doing that for more than two decades by this point?
Produced by Corman, directed by Daniel Haller (art director of House of Usher and The Pit and the Pendulum; director of Die, Monster, Die!, The Dunwich Horror and Devil’s Angels) and written by Mick Benderoth, Monte Stettin and William Hjortsberg, The Georgia Peaches (also known as Follow That Car) was a pilor for a series that wasn’t purchased, but did air on CBS on November 8, 1980.
Instead of being moonshiner runners like the Dukes, country singer Lorette Peach (Tanya Tucker), her garage-owning sister Sue Lynn(Teri Nunn from Berlin) and stock car driver Dusty Tyree (Benedict) are recruited as undercover agents by the U.S. Treasury Department to stop cigarette bootleggers. The Boss Hogg here is Vivian Stark (Sally Kirkland).
It looks great, has likeable leads and yet, it’s missing something. Oh well.
