Jimmy James (Gary Majchrazak) is laying down smooth saxophone melodies in a gritty New York City subway station when he crosses paths with an enigmatic, distressed woman. After Jimmy suggests she introduce herself as May Dusa (Sofia Landon), she suffers from severe amnesia and wears sunglasses to hide her eyes.
Earlier, May woke up in a department store and was accidentally mistaken for a mannequin. When a robber broke in, she instinctively defended herself, revealing her terrifying mythological curse: anyone who makes direct eye contact with her is instantly turned into a mannequin. Believing she might be cured after her glasses fall off and Jimmy fails to turn to stone (unbeknownst to her, because Jimmy is blind), she breaks her shades. As her ancient memories flood back, stretching all the way to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, she realizes the devastating destruction she has left across centuries.
This episode boldly swaps traditional horror-anthology tropes for a melancholy urban noir atmosphere, transforming ancient Greek mythology into a street-level tragedy of isolation. Directed and written by Richard Blackburn, this is darker and less comedic than many episodes of this show.
