Three teenage friends — Suzanne (Charlotte Walior), Annie (Zoé Chauveau), and Catherine (Anne Parillaud) — are ready to navigate the emotional turbulence of adolescence, love and self-discovery. This involves spending their nights in discos and cinemas chasing adventure and romance. Soon, they are joined by Suzanne’s younger sister, Betty (Isabelle Mejias), who eagerly imitates their behavior, only to stumble into adult consequences she isn’t yet prepared for.
This was directed by Just Jaeckin, the auteur behind iconic eroytic cinematic benchmarks like Emmanuelle and The Story of O. Girls showcases his signature lush visual style and nuanced portrayal of female coming-of-age and has a pop soundtrack by Eric Stewart of the band 10cc.
Don’t expect the erotic side of Jaeckin here. Instead, this is very much a movie these young teens growing up. It’s got bright neon colors and a hopeful plot; it’s unlike any of his movies that I’ve seen.
