A DEADLY DRIVE-IN DOUBLE FEATURE THIS SATURDAY!

Join us this Saturday night on the Groovy Doom Facebook page at 8 PM East Coast Time for two deadly features where death is never the end.

1981’s Dead and Buried is one of my favorite movies. Yeah, I know I say that all the time, but this time it’s more true than ever before. You can watch it on Tubi.

You don’t have to drink to enjoy the movies, but we still share recipes. Here’s one, taken from

Needle in the Eye (based on a recipe from 1,000 Drinks by Paul Knorr)

  • 1 oz. gin
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • Splash of lemon juice
  • Splash of lime juice
  • Splash of orange juice
  • Lemon-lime soda
  1. Build this over ice, then fill with your choice of lemon-lime soda.
  2. Avoid nurses with syringes.

If there’s a perfect movie, Psychomania just might be it. You can watch it on YouTube.

There’s a reason why this drink is up second. I don’t recommend this one for just everyone. This one’s gonna test you as if you were a member of The Living Dead.

Biker Zombie (based on the traditional zombie recipe)

  • 1 oz. pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz. passion fruit juice
  • 1/2 oz. apricot brandy
  • 1/4 oz. lime juice
  • 3/4 oz. Jamaican rum (I’m using Tall Pines Pot Still Rum)
  • 3/4 oz. coconut rum
  • 1/2 oz. Kraken rum
  • 1/4 oz. grenadine
  • Dash Angostura bitters
  1. Combine everything but the Kraken and shake it up with ice.
  2. Top with the dark rum and ride your motorcycle out of your grave.

We’ll see you on Saturday!

  2. Pour over ice, top with soda.

BACK TO THE DRIVE-IN FOR TWO KINDA SORTA YINZER MOVIES!

Well, Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh and John Russo is a local, so that counts for all the reasons we need to have these movies be a double feature. That’s right, we’re watching Andy Warhol’s and The Majorettes this Saturday night on the Groovy Doom Facebook page at 8 PM East Coast Time.

First, it’s time to fuck life in the gallbladder! You can watch Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein aka Flesh for Frankenstein aka Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein in 3D. You can watch it courtesy of the fine folks at Blechbuster Video.

Here’s the drink that goes with it!

Frankenstein Factory (based on this recipe)

  • 1 oz. pineapple vodka
  • 1/2 oz. fresh kiwi puree
  • Prosecco
  1. Cut and core a fresh kiwi. then muddle in a glass.
  2. Stir together with vodka, then pour into a glass and top with Prosecco.

Now, travel with us to the Fox Chapel Yacht Club for The Majorettes, which you can watch on Tubi.

The drink for this movie was suggested by our friend Dustin Fallon from Horror and Sons.

Red Pom Pom Cocktail (here’s the original recipe)

  • 1.5 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. pomegranate juice
  • .5 oz. lemon juice
  • Ginger ale
  1. Combine lemon juice, pomegranate juice and bourbon in your shaker filled with ice and shake it while screaming, “Be aggressive! B-E aggressive!”
  2. Pour over ice, then top with ginger ale.

See you on Saturday!

IT’S LADIES NIGHT ON THIS SATURDAY’S DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE!

We’re so excited that so many of you come and watch movies with us every Saturday night. If you’re up for a late night of watching and talking all things fantastic film, visit with us on the Groovy Doom Facebook page at 8 PM East Coast Time.

We set up the shows, share ads for them, make a cocktail themed to the film and then watch the films on Tuvi (or on DVD if you have them!).

Up first, it’s a movie about a young girl growing up and everyone else dying all around her. That’s right — the underrated Sweet Sixteen. You can watch it on Tubi.

Sweet Sixteen (based on this recipe)

TWO NIGHT MOVIES IN ONE NIGHT ON THE DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE!

This is probably the most excited I’ve ever been for one of our episodes, as we’re showing two movies that have obsessed me for years. Join us this Saturday on the Groovy Doom Facebook page at 8 PM East Coast Time! To make sure you know when the show begins, “like” the page so you get an alert.

First up is three movies in one — Night Train to Terror. You can watch it on Tubi.

If you haven’t watched our show, we do a pre-show warmup all about the first movie, show you an ad gallery of theatrical and drive-in appearances of that movie and then show you how to make a cocktail to go with it. We encourage responsible drinking as well as staying up all night to watch weird films.

This week’s first recipe:

Night Trainwreck to Terror (based on this recipe)

  • 1 oz. vanilla rum
  • .75 oz. triple sec
  • .75 oz. Kaluha or creme de cacao
  • 7-Up or your favorite lemon-lime soda
  • Sweet and sour mix
  1. Pour the first three alcohol-based ingredients into a glass with ice.
  2. Add a quick splash of the soda, then fill up the rest with sweet and sour.
  3. Everybody’s got something to do, everybody but you. Now stir it up and drink.

Our second movie is one that will decimate your mind. We’re going to Italy by way of Virginia Beach with Night Killer. You can also watch this on Tubi.

You’re going to need a strong drink to make sense of this, if you choose to have a beverage. We’ve got you covered.

Night (Pain) Killer

  • 1.5 oz. Kraken rum
  • 1.5 oz. peanut butter chocolate moonshine
  • 5 oz. pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • 1 oz. cream of coconut
  • Grenadine
  • Maraschino cherry
  • Nutmeg
  • Salt
  1. Fill a shaker with ice, rum, moonshine, the juices and cream of coconut. Shake it as rough and hard, like you’re the night killer murdering a dance school instructor.
  2. Throw your jeans in the toilet — it’ll make sense once you see the movie — then pour into a glass.
  3. Drop in a small amount of grenadine, along with a dusting of nutmeg, a pinch of salt to give you the taste of a beach filled with pills and a cherry because you deserve it.

We can’t wait to see you next Saturday!

You should totally buy both of these movies. You can get Night Train to Terror from Vinegar Syndrome and Night Killer from Severin.

HAVE A HOLLY JOLLY DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE!

Hey, did you know it’s Christmas soon? We did and that’s why you’re getting a holiday movie every week along with something else, all December from the two of us. We’ll be at the Groovy Doom Facebook page at 8 PM East Coast Time, so make sure to “like” the page so you get an alert when we go live throughout the night.

Up first — perhaps the best holiday movie ever made, Black Christmas.

To go with this movie, may I offer you a drink?

Secret Santa

  • 4 oz. eggnog (take your pick of brands, I bought the actual SoCo version)
  • 2 oz. Southern Comfort
  1. This one is simple. Pour it all together over ice and enjoy. Feel free to substitute your beverage of choice, like Fireball instead of Southern Comfort. I mean, this is a Canadian movie, so maybe some Canadian Club?

Less well known, but no less great, will be our second feature…1980’s House of the Dead AKA Alien Zone.

There’s no trailer, but there is this drink recipe…

Alien Zoned Out in the House of the Dead (from the book 10,000 Drinks by Paul Knorr, where it was called Zoned Out)

  • 1 oz. pineapple vodka
  • 1 oz. Chambord
  • 1/2 oz. peach schnapps
  • 2 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  1. Build over ice, then stir!
