When you doubt what a movie is and it’s playing at a drive-in in the 70s, chances are it’s a Schoolgirl Report movie.
Also known as Sex at the Olympics and Girls Who Came to Munich, this is—like those films—a stitched-together carousel of softcore vignettes set against the backdrop of Munich 1972 that has absolutely nothing to do with sport, athleticism or physical fitness of any kind, unless you count competitive clothing removal.
Director Walter Boos leans fully into the format that would soon dominate German softcore, with pseudo-doc narration delivered deadpan, yet with enough faux-moral concern to justify the voyeurism and gooseflesh. The film unfolds through a series of six lightly connected tales of young women arriving in Munich for work, excitement, or simply the chance to strip down for the camera.
It’s pure proto-Schulmädchen-Report, functioning as part comedy, part cautionary tale and all soft-focus sin. What elevates this particular slice of Euro-smut is an absolute powerhouse cast of cult favorites. The line-up features Ingrid Steeger (The Young Seducers), Ulrike Butz (nearly every Schoolgirl Report), Karin Götz (Office Girls), Dorit Henke and—most importantly—exploitation royalty Christina Lindberg. Lindberg’s storyline, in particular, anchors this. Playing a newcomer whose search for respectable work leads her to an escort agency and then into an escalating series of increasingly bizarre encounters, she becomes the accidental emotional core of the feature. Her segments are weird, funny, and unexpectedly revealing about the period’s attitudes toward women, sex and sex work.
