WEIRD WEDNESDAY: Sex in the Office (1971)

A department manager finds himself standing in a courtroom, forced to defend his actions against serious charges of workplace harassment. To explain his side of the story, he takes the judge and the court through the chaotic, sprawling narrative of one exceptionally difficult day on the job. Meanwhile, a restless reporter takes to the streets of Germany to interview everyday citizens and workers about office culture, probing whether sliding into a co-worker’s arms is simply standard corporate policy.

Welcome to another Ernst Hofbauer schoolgirl report-style movie. This time, those street interviews serve as the framing device for a series of vignette-driven stories exploring illicit after-hours affairs, power dynamics and scandalous office liaisons. Among the tales told: a manipulative boss who orchestrates a competition where female employees fight for his affection, a tragic encounter when a suspicious wife catches her cheating husband red-handed, and workplace power dynamics involving older executives and ambitious young subordinates.

You get eleven stories, and it’s funny because this is sleazy but not necessarily filthy. I kind of like that strange juxtaposition.

You can watch this on CultPix.
