CBS LATE MOVIE: You Can’t Win ‘Em All (1970)

EDITOR’S NOTE: You Can’t Win ‘Em All was on the CBS Late Movie on March 23 and December 9, 1997 and June 16 and December 12, 1978.

At the close of the Ottoman Empire, two American soldiers of fortune – Adam (Tony Curtis) and Josh (Charles Bronson) – team up to see how they can make some money out of it. Soon, Osman Bey’s (Grégoire Aslan) forces capture them; the governor is impressed by the Americans’ firepower. He pays them to take his daughters to Mecca. Bey also sends their bodyguard, Aila (Michèle Mercier), who has her own agenda, which will put the men at odds with one another and nearly get both killed.

Peter Collinson (Fright, Straight On till Morning) directed it, and Leo Gordon wrote it; he also wrote The Wasp Woman, Attack of the Giant Leeches, and Most Dangerous Man Alive.

Tony Curtis told The Los Angeles Times, “The country, the people, were fabulous. The thing that did us in was the very shoddy British production set up. They promised certain things on location and didn’t provide them. Sanitary conditions were inadequate: people got sick. The director, Peter Collinson? I have no comment about Mr Collinson. Some day I’ll tell you about him.”

It does have a great poster.
