Since 2010 Armando Hernandez has been one of the only people discussing Mexican genre pictures through his website trashmex dot com and the Trash-Mex podcast with co-host Joey Diaz. There’s ORO AUTÉNTICO on this list!
A shadowy, sinister satanic cult is operating out of a mountain cave, terrorizing the region by kidnapping women to hold them captive for their upcoming unholy rituals. While an investigation tries to make sense of the bizarre string of murders and abductions, the movie spends a good chunk of its runtime entrenched with the cultists themselves, building up that gritty, low-budget atmosphere of impending doom and midnight sacrifices.
Jorge Reynoso has top billing as part of the law enforcement presence trying to crack the case, even if he’s barely in it. He’s up against Alfredo Wally Barrón and Paco Pharrez, the cult leaders who are menacing Claudia Guzmán. Plus, you get a heavy-synth 1990s score that gives the subterranean satanic panic an incredible audio backdrop.
You can do so much worse than watching an SOV Satanic South of the Border movie, you know? Everyone in this has hair that looks like Sleazy P. Martini but real. It’s really amazing.
