Back to the Drive-In (2022)
Director and writer April Wright visited eleven family-owned drive-ins across the country to see how they keep their dream of playing movies in the open air alive. The pandemic allowed people to come back to this seemingly lost way to see movies — well, for some us, we never stopped going — and now that […]
TUBI ORIGINAL: Zombies Prepping for the Apocalypse (2021)
As much as I love the Japanese movie Nosutoradamusu no daiyogen, the prophecies of Nostradamus have always given my trouble. Back in the days after 9/11, the same HR professional who would repeatedly leave Bibles at my desk with Post-Its telling me about how I was going to hell went on a chain email spree […]
The Burial (2021)
When Molly’s (Faith Kearns) boyfriend Brian (Vernon Taylor) gets a phone call from his estranged brother Keith (Spencer Wetzel), he heads off for an unplanned family reunion at their remote cabin. She goes along for the ride because, well, people always go back home and deal with old trauma in horror movies without thinking twice […]
The Welder (2021)
Roe (Roe Dunkley) and Eliza (Camila Rodríguez) are dealing with her PTSD from her military service, which is causing her sleepwalk and be traumatized by basic tasks. She thinks that a weekend away will fix it all. He thinks it’s going to take something else and wonders why she doesn’t just lean on him more. So […]
The First Fallen (2021)
Directed and written by Rodrigo de Oliveira, this movie goes back to 1983 and a young biologist named Suzano (Johnny Massaro) coming home from studying in France and feeling like something is wrong with his body. MONSTER/POP TWIST ENTERTAINMENT DVD RELEASE: Blitzed: The 80s Blitz Kids Story (2021)
Can one night change the world? When it was Tuesday night at London’s Blitz club, hosted by Steve Strange and Rusty Egan, the answer was yes. After the no future gloom of punk, the New Romantics made dressing up — while still being poor — into an art form and the music, clothes and attitude […]
TROMA BLU RAY RELEASE: Divide & Conquer (2021)
Mercedes the Muse (who directed, wrote and produced this, as well as starring as Toxie), Irie Divine (who is Lilith) and Knotty Peach (Athena) are three women rolling through a post-apocalyptic future — well, is Tromaville ever not currently in the midst of the end of everything possible? — and dealing with misogynistic men by […]
Bloody Hell (2021)
EDITOR’S NOTE: This was originally on the site on January 30, 2021 but now that the film is on Tubi, I wanted to inform you, dear reader, as this is a fun one. Bloody Hell is an absolute blast. I have no fancy words to add, really — I’ll try — but I was absorbed by […]
WELL GO USA BLU RAY RELEASE: Death Knot (2021)
When your film starts with a woman walking into the forest and hangs herself, you know that in no way is this going to be an easy ride. That woman was the mother of Hari (Cornelio Sunny, who also directed and co-wrote this with Ike Klose) and his sister Eka (Widika Sidmore) and she’s been […]
Amityville Hex (2021)
I don’t put my wife through my Amityville obsession, but she was home for my watch of Amityville Hex and it stopped when she told me that she was going to divorce me if I didn’t shut it off. Tony Newton, who also made The Amityville Exorcist, is to blame for this. It’s less a movie than […]
