THE BIGGEST EPISODE OF DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE EVER!

We’ve been leading up to this for a whole year — we’re showing two of our favorite movies of forever this week! Make plans to meet us Saturday on the Groovy Doom Facebook page starting at 8 PM East Coast Time.

Bradley Steel Harding will join us to introduce the films, share drink recipes, show you the ad campaign for each movie and then discuss the movies when we come back!

Up first is one of the 70s most amazing movies. Flat out, a complete classic, it’s Messiah of Evil! You can watch it on YouTube.

Here’s the recipe for the cocktail we’ll be enjoying during the movie.

Point Dume Sunset

  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 1.5 oz. coconut rum

  • Maraschino cherries
  1. Fill a glass with ice, then pour in this order: vodka, rum, schnapps.

  3. Then, pour your juices, then add cherries. Then, sit in the sun and wait. And sleep. And dream. Each of us dying slowly in the prison of our minds.

We’re following that with perhaps the strangest movie of the 70s to get a PG rating. And that would be…The Baby! You can watch it on Tubi.

Here’s the drink to enjoy during this one!

  • 1 oz. cream or half and half
  1. Fill a shaker with ice and all ingredients.
  2. Shake hard until frothy and drink up.

We can’t wait to see you this week!

STEP INTO THE BLACK AND WHITE DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE!

This week, it’s two black and white classics with Bill and special guest host Matt Hanke as they dig into two oldie but never moldy films!

Up first, it’s The Killer Shrews which you can watch on Tubi.

Now when Joel and the bots watched this movie, they made a drink with chocolate ice cream, Cap’n Crunch with Crunch Berries, Peanut M&Ms, Mrs. Butterworth’s, circus peanuts, Marshmallow Peeps, Sweet Tarts, vanilla frosting, Good ‘n’ Plenty and Mr. Pibb.

I’m not putting you through that.

Instead let’s try a drink named for the stars of this movie, the little dogs under the rugs.

The Killer Pomeranian

  • 1 oz. Chambord
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. grapefruit juice
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  1. Mix all the ingredients in your shaker and act like a small dog that has been angered.

Oscuridad del Barón

KAIJU MANIA THIS WEEK ON THE DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE!

This Saturday night on the Groovy Doom Facebook page, we’re forgetting Godzilla vs. Kong and enjoying some weirdo kaiju, the same things should be, starting at 8 PM East Coast Time.

First up, Infra-Man! You can watch this on Vimeo.

Ready for a drink recipe?

Infra-Man of Paradise

  • 3 oz. gin
  • 1.5 oz. lemon juice

Then, we’re gonna get all Yeti on you! Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century is on Tubi.

Yeti Colada, Cocktail of the 20th Century

  • 1 oz. Kraken rum (or your rum of choice, but a cryptozoological rum makes sense here)

  • 1 oz. coconut cream
  • .5 oz. coconut milk
    • Note: You can also just use 1.5 oz. of Pina Colada mix
  • 1 oz. pineapple juice
  • Handful of pineapple chunks
  • Maraschino cherries, to taste
  1. Throw everything and some ice into a blender. Get it nice and frothy.
  2. Comb your hair with fish bones and enjoy!

We can’t wait to see you on Saturday.
