Week 6 (July 26 – Aug 1) – Generic Cartoon Tapes

A young boy discovers a mysterious extraterrestrial visitor, and this alien, imbued with unique cosmic abilities, forms an immediate, telepathic bond with him.
Is this E.T.? No, it’s a South Korean animated ripoff of it and their connection is anchored by the Gold Pencil, an object of unknown power that allows the duo to manifest their thoughts into reality.
Of course, Spielberg didn’t dream of things like his little alien battling vampire demons in space or that a Gold OPencil would be able to be used as a weapon against the Demon King. There’s also a glowing phoenix bird that looks like when G Force would transform their ship into the Fiery Phoenix, a green ET Xerox who wears a yellow jumpsuit and feels like he would hang out with the Morlocks in X-Men, a kid that always wears an astronaut helmet, a setting that is either in the dark ages or an Eastern Bloc country, Hot Butter’s “Popcorn” playing on the soundtrack, a pencil ship that looks so much like Space Battleship Yamamoto, the Star Wars Meco remix playing over a climatic Death Star battle while farting lasers are also heard, dialogue that feels like a mix of several languages all at the same time, a space angel and a theme song that has a singing kid choir.
Obviously, no one has reviewed this on IMDb or Letterboxd, where it has been watched by 8 people. Have I gone too far? Is this the end of the internet? When I die, I want people to remember who was here first and how much of my time was wasted.
