In contemporary Taiwan, hip and sexy Ting (Polly Shang Kuan ) —dressed in flared polyester pants and platform shoes—is on a quest to avenge her father’s murder. She finds herself constantly on the run from a syndicate of hooligans trying to steal the seven-diamond ring she inherited, which conveniently holds the password to a secret Swiss bank account. Along the way, she crosses paths with a suave lounge-rock singer (Yasuaki Kurata) who steps in to help her navigate the endless wave of hand-to-hand combat.
Cheng Hou is best known for pushing cinematic boundaries with wild genre entries, including The Shaolin Invincibles (famed for its men in gorilla suits) and The Zodiac Fighters (where Polly Kuan battles men in lobster costumes). The action sequences were engineered by the stellar Leung father/son team alongside Tommy Lee, keeping the pacing brisk and packed with dynamic martial arts displays.
True to the eclectic and wild curation of 1970s international imports, the soundtrack weaves in recognizable cues from Berto Pisano’s score for Kill! alongside tracks from the American and European rock songbook, including instrumental cuts from the band Focus (“House of the King” and “Hocus Pocus”).
