Ron Bonk’s SRS Cinema has been providing the underground with TOP QUALITY GRIME since the 90s. Not only does he release a deluge of Sharksploitation, Amityville ripoffs, and Cocaine-addicted critter flicks, he also distributes auteurist masterpieces like Tim Ritter’s Truth or Dare? – A Critical Madness, Hugh Gallagher’s Gore Trilogy and the Polonia Brothers’ Hallucinations, plus he’s moved into the world of Japanese kaiju cinema with Howl From Beyond the Fog and The Whale God.
Within a lowly comic book shop, there exists a legend. A VHS tape, the absolute crown jewel of the collection, is presided over by Deathbone (Billy Garberina), the shop’s owner. For decades, it has sat behind the counter with a $1,500 price tag, making it legendary among the nerds who shop there every day.
Two sides of the geek ecosystem, Max Havoc (Kurt Indovina) and Papillion St. Croix (Josh Suire), arrive at the shop with cash in hand, ready to claim their prize. But they are beaten to the punch by Tangerine (Raine Brown), a genuine, hot-as-hell geek girl. She’s not wearing her boyfriend’s shirt, so to speak. She honestly loves Full Moon Pictures and knows her lore.
Stunned that someone else has secured the holy grail, Max and Papillion ignite the Geek War. They concoct a series of desperate schemes to woo Tangerine, with the ultimate goal of getting the tape. However, as the lines between strategy and sincerity blur, Max finds himself genuinely falling for Tangerine.
Directed and written by Chris Seaver, Geek War is ridiculous in the best of ways. It’s filthy, it’s gross, it’s geeky, and so much more. Yet it has a genuine romance, and that’s a big win. It’s not for everyone, and they would probably rather have it that way.
