Short review: This thing is the most incredible toy I own.
Dr. Ted Sallis was working in the Florida Everglades trying to recreate the Super Soldier Serum that gave Steve Rogers — and Isaiah Bradley — into Captain America. He soon learns that his wife Ellen Brandt has really been working for Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) and is trying to steal the formula. He injects himself with what’s left of the serum then crashes his car into the swamp, in the perfect place where magic and science can transform him into a gigantic slow-moving and empathic swamp monster.
“Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing’s touch!”
This collaboration between Mondo and designer James Groman (Madballs, Kaiju Killer, King Korpse) finds the artist bringing his unique style to a large scae Soft Vinyl Figure. Sure, this thing may only have three points of articulation — the head and arms — but it’s such a monstrous piece of nearly foot tall madness and has so much detail that you’ll never notice.
While the figure is currently sold out on Mondo — as are some awesome other colorways — here are some other images of this astounding figure. It’s still available on Entertainment Earth and Sideshow Collectibles, so hurry and get one before it’s too late!
Even the packaging is awesome, looking like a Marvel annual from the 80s with gorgeous art by Groman. The box itself is in my office right now and it’s definitely a conversation starter.
I wanted to take a few other photos to show off that this piece is just as detailed — maybe even more! — than the photos Mondo has on their site.
There’s also a Devil’s Kaiju colorway, plus Psychedelic, Pen and Ink (which was at SDCC) and Groman’s Green, which Mondo will be releasing in the next few days!
I can’t believe that this toy is for real. If I had this when I was a kid, I would have carried it everywhere with me. As for the toy’s form, think Hasbro’s Inhumanoids but with even more colors, shapes and details included.
Whether you love Batman, the X-Men, Godzilla, Pulgasauri (!), Rick and Morty or He-Man, Mondo has something for you on their Mondo Shop. I’m absolutely in awe of this incredible figure and look forward to absent-mindedly staring it at for hours as it sits on the shelf in my office.
Thanks to Mondo for sending me this review copy! That was beyond cool of them to do. That didn’t have any influence on this review, because this muddy and swampy big guy is astounding all on its own.
