Get ready for Saturday’s Drive-In Asylum Double Feature!

Are you ready for another late night of crazy movies? I sure am! Bill and I have put together a mix of ads for the films, drink recipes, facts and perhaps even a song about one or both of these movies!

Up first…

It’s The Dark! You’d think Film Ventures International was paying us off with all the attention we’ve been giving them. This movie was originally going to be directed by Tobe Hooper. It was also supposed to be about an autistic child. Then a werewolf. Then an alien. If you’re saying, none of this makes sense, good news. You’re in for it!

To drink along with this movie, we’ve prepared a drink called the Alien Secretion, based on this recipe.

Alien Secretion

  • 2 ounces coconut rum
  • 2 ounces Midori or any other melon liqueur
  • 3 ounces pineapple juice
  • Ice
  • A cherry
  1. Put all of the ingredients in your shaker. Blast them with your glowing laser eyes. Mix it up.
  2. Garnish with a cherry.

The Visitor is a movie I’ve been wanting to do on our show since we started. Prepare to be confounded and blasted into sheer confusin. I love this movie so much and I still have no idea what it’s about.

We’ve searched for a cocktail that is just as strange. Get ready for…

The Visitor (taken from this recipe)

  • 2/3 ounce Dekuyper or Jacquin’s banana liqueur
  • 1 whole egg white
  • 1/3 ounce orange juice
  • 2/3 ounce gin
  • 2/3 ounce triple sec
  • Ice
  1. Mix it all into your shaker. Have a flock of birds fly at it while you run up and down the steps, screaming as glass breaks all over your house.
  2. Pour over ice and enjoy.

To watch these films, we recommend Tubi. Here are the links:

See you Saturday at 8 PM EST on the Groovy Doom Facebook page.

Get ready for the next DRIVE-IN ASYLUM double feature!

This week, it’s twice the sharks and all of the copyright issues as we present two movies that may owe a debt to a certain 1975 blockbuster. You can watch us live on the Groovy Doom Facebook page. While you’re at it, grab the insane Drive-In Asylum Shark Special Issue! It even has shark hunter trading cards!

Here’s the trailer!

Up first is Cruel Jaws, a movie so great I wrote about it twice. Bruno Mattei takes shark films to the next level and by that, I mean the most inane and ridiculous lows possible, including a fake Hulk Hogan. I love this movie!

For your drinking pleasure, I’ll be showing you how to mix up this cocktail.

Frozen Jaws 5, based on this recipe

  • Blue Raspberry Cherry PowerAid
  • Blue Curacao (like Bols)
  • White rum
  • Lots of ice
  • A shark gummy treat
  1. Measure out the ingredients based on how much booze you like. Remember that we have a second movie, so maybe start off slowly. Toss all of it in the blender with some ice and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into a glass and let that gummy shark swim in. If you’re feeling dangerous, you can use some grenadine to simulate some blood in the water.

We’re following that with Great White, the Enzo G. Castellari-directed movie that is about as shameless a retread as there ever was.

Here’s a drink perfect for the movie!

L’ultimo Squalo Returns, based on this recipe

  • Thinly sliced lemon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pineapple
  • 1/2 cup tequila
  • 1/2 cup triple sec
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup rum
  • Splash of grenadine
  • Lots of ice
  • Some maraschino cherries
  • More shark gummys
  1. This one is super simple. Just mix everything together in a pitcher and stir it up.
  2. Make it fancy by grabbing a long toothpick filled with pineapple, cherries and a shark gummy.

This recipe is going to make 4 to 6 cocktails, or one big one, so get ready.

DRIVE-IN ASYLUM *double feature* Week 5: “Cathy’s Curse” and “The Children”

Last week, Bill and I watched Cathy’s Curse and The Children with a whole bunch fo great people via the https://www.facebook.com/GroovyDoom/Groovy Doom Facebook page. We’ll be back this Saturday, but we wanted to share the latest episode with you.

Here are the drink recipes, if you want to try them.

Cathy’s Green Eyes, based on this recipe

  • 1 oz. Melon Liqueur, like Midori, which is totally a stripper name
  • 1 oz. Coconut Rum (or be cheap like me and just use the same rum you bought last week)
  • 1/2 oz. Cream Of Coconut (grab a can of that stuff that has the 1950’s artwork that has never changed)
  • 1 1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 oz. (15ml) Fresh Lime Juice (half a lime will do)
  1. Get a whole mess of ice and put it in your shaker. Whatever ends up in it, combine the melon liqueur, rum, cream of coconut, fresh lime juice and pineapple juice. Shake it up.
  2. Add ice to a glass and pour the mix in.

Black Nails

  • 1 can Diet Dr. Pepper (or Dr. Pepper)
  • 2 oz. Rum
  • 1/2 oz. Cream Of Coconut
  • 1/2 oz. (15ml) Fresh Lime Juice (half a lime)
  1. Put the cream of coconut and lime juice in a glass and stir it up until it mixes well and you have no chunks. Drop in some ice cubes.
  2. Pour in the rum, stir again. Finally, add in the Dr. Pepper slowly, stirring until everything mixes well. If you want to be thematic to the movie, microwave it until it kills a local doctor.

THIS SATURDAY! DRIVE-IN ASYLUM DOUBLE FEATURE!

It’s another Drive-In Asylum Double Feature! I’m beyond excited, because honestly, if I ever got to show one movie in a theater and talk about it or do the commentary track on a blu ray, it would be Cathy’s Curse, which is absolutely one of my favorite movies of all time.

Here’s what you need to enjoy the movies!

Cathy’s Curse: While you have so many options to watch this movie, you should own the Severin blu ray of this movie. Seriously. But that fucker now.

As you may know, we serve up cocktails with each movie. Here’s a recipe so you can enjoy the film along with me.
