Every week, we talk about the movies, share the ad campaigns and have two drinks. Here’s the first recipe:

Gummy Katahdin

  • 1.5 oz. pineapple vodka
  • 1 oz. rum
  • 2 oz. pineapple juice
  • 4 oz. Hawaiian Punch
  • Prepped gummy bears

Day before…

Take a plastic container and line it with 20 or more gummy bears. Pour 3 ounces of pineapple vodka over them and let soak for a day.

Drink…

  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice and several uncrushed agitator ice cubes. Shake up like you’re a bear destroying an oil industry worker.
  2. Pour in a glass, then drop in those drunken gummy bears. Roar loudly.

Spinal Fluid

  • 1.5 oz. pineapple vodka
  • 1 oz. sour apple schnapps
  • 2 oz. pineapple juice
  • .5 oz. lime juice
  • 4 oz. Mountain Dew
  1. Shake all ingredients except Mountain Dew in a shaker filled with ice.
  2. Pour over crushed ice, then top with Mountain Dew.

  • 1.5 oz. vodka
  • 5 oz. pineapple juice
  • .5 oz. cranberry juice
  1. Pour the vodka into a glass filled with crushed ice.
  2. Top with pineapple juice and float cranberry juice to complete.

Dr. Arnold

  • 1.5 oz. Absolut Citron
  • .25 oz. triple sec
  • 4 oz. lemonade
  • 4 oz. iced tea
  1. Fill your glass with ice and alcohol.
  2. Add equal amounts of lemonade and tea, stir and take your medicine.

Praying Mantis

  • 1.5 oz. tequila
  • 5 oz. cola
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. lime juice
  1. Shake the tequila and juices with ice.
  2. Pour into a glass and top with cola.

Swinger Party

  • 2 oz. Absolut Citron
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • 2 oz. Hawaiian Punch
  • 2 oz. orange juice
  • 2 oz. pineapple juice
  • Frozen fruit cocktail
  1. Throw everything in the shaker like they’re keys at a party in The Ice Storm.
  2. Shake it up, drink it all and see who goes home with who.

GIALLO GONE MUSIC VIDEO ON THE DRIVE-IN ASYLUM LATE NITE MOVIE!

This week, join Bill and Sam at 11 PM EST on the Groovy Doom Facebook and YouTube channel for a movie that goes full music video 80s for where giallo could go. Get ready for Too Beautiful to Die which you can watch on Tubi.

Get ready to watch the movie with us, plus learn how it was made, see some art for it and drink this drink with us!

80s Giallo

  • 3 oz. tequila
  • 4 oz. pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz. Campari
  • 10-12 frozen pineapple chunks
  • Pinch of salt
  1. Mix all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice and frozen pineapple chunks.
  2. Put on a white mask, shake and pour in a glass. Add a pinch of salt and enjoy.

TWO KILLER MOVIES ON THE DIA DOUBLE FEATURE!

Cult Leader

  • 2 oz. grain alcohol
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 4 oz. Cherry Kool-Aid
  • 2 oz. pineapple juice
  • 4 oz. Mountain Dew
  1. Mix all ingredients at once over crushed ice.
  2. Wait for the announcement to drink. Find a good place to die.

Our second movie is one of the ones we love so much, a movie that has so many titles. Let’s use Devil Times Five for now and tell you the rest Saturday. You can watch it on YouTube and Tubi.

Sister Hannah

  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. tequila
  • 5 oz. apple juice
  • Dash of hot sauce
  1. Pour all ingredients except hot sauce over ice.
  2. Stir and drop in a few drops of your hot sauce depending on your level of comfort.

PROM DEATH! BLOB DEATH! WATCH THE DIA DOUBLE FEATURE!

I don’t really know if I could be more excited about this week’s movies. That’s right, two of my favorite 80s movies are on the show! Join Bill, me and the Neon Brainiacs at 8 PM EST on the Groovy Doom Facebook and YouTube channel.

First up — a remake that may even outdo the original. It’s the 1988 The Blob which you can watch on The Internet Archive.

Every week, we watch the movies, show the ads and have a drink. Here’s the first one, which comes from the incredible book Let’s Get Monster Smashed by Jon and Marc Chiat, which was given to me by A.C. Nicholas.

Sewer Jelly

  • 8 oz. vodka
  • 8 oz. water
  • 1 1/2 oz. cherry Jell-O
  • 1 1/2 oz. grape Jell-O
  • 8 oz. cherry yogurt (they recommend vanilla, but I’m going bloody)
  • About 20 or so small pineapple chunks
  1. Combine gelatin and 8 oz. water in a pot over low heat ad cook until the gelatin is dissolved.
  2. With the heat off, add the vodka and mix thoroughly.
  3. Combine pineapple chunks with the gelatin and mix.
  4. Pour into a bundt cake pan and add the yogurt. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Chill overnight or until set.

The second movie is Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 which you can watch on Tubi.

Here’s the drink.

Prom Night Virgin (from Tipsy Bartender)

  • 1 oz. Southern Comfort
  • 1/2 oz.peach schnapps
  • 3 oz. Mountain Dew
  • 1/2 oz. grenadine
  1. Fill a glass with ice and pour over the Southern Comfort, schnapps and soda.
  2. Drizzle in grenadine…like blood.

  • 2 oz. white rum
  • 2 oz. dark rum
  • 2 oz. passion fruit juice
  • 2 oz. orange juice
  • .5 oz. grenadine
  • .5 oz. simple syrup
  • .25 oz. lime juice
  • Maraschino cherry
  1. Add all your ingredients — other than the cherry — in a shaker filled with ice.
  2. Mix it up, pour over ice and toss in that cherry.

Our second movie is Vice Squad, which you can watch on Tubi.

This is the second drink.

Neon Slime

  • 1.5 oz. Midori
  • .5 oz. Southern Comfort
  • .5 oz. sweet and sour mix (or .25 oz. lemon juice and .25 oz. simple syrup)
  • .25 oz. egg whites
  • 1 oz. lemon lime soda
  1. Put all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake it up.
  2. Let it sit for a moment, then shake it again. Pour over ice and enjoy.

A day before

  • Watermelon
  • Vodka
  • Simple syrup
  1. Cut watermelon into cubes.
  2. Place in a bowl, then cover with a mix of 75% vodka and 25% simple syrup. Cover overnight in the freezer.

The drink

  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. Watermelon Pucker
  • Watermelon cubes
  • 3 oz. WTRMLN WTR (or the juice from the watermelon you sliced)
  • .25 oz. lime juice
  • 1 oz. club soda
  1. Fill a glass halfway up with frozen watermelon cubes. Top with vodka, Watermelon Pucker, lime juice and WTRMLN WTR (or juice).
  2. Top with club soda and freak out.

  • .25 oz. Kaluha
  • .25 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • .25 oz. amaretto
  • .25 oz. high proof rum
  1. Stir with ice and strain into a chilled shot glass.

Alternatively, and this is for the brave, there’s this…

Footprints On the Amber Moon

  • 3 oz. whiskey
  • Raw egg
  • Dash of Tobasco
  1. Pour whiskey into a glass, then crack a raw egg and drop into the glass. Don’t break the yoke or the ghost of Klaus Kinski will haunt you.
  2. Add some Tobasco, do a count down and ignite the engines.

Our second movie might have the most A List talent we’ve ever had on the show, Liz Taylor. Yes, it’s Identikit. You can watch it on Tubi, Shudder and YouTube.
